2014 starts with a... game?

YES!
Not with a BANG but with a GAME!

Go ahead and click the image to go to the Game Jam website!

Yet another game jam I thought I'd try out just for the fun of it.
Yes, I have spent all night at New Years Eve to create a game!

What I did accomplish in this short timespan

I did come up with something!
It's quite a personal game, very narrational (at least in my head), and something very different.
It's a point and click / escape the room game inspired for example by 999, or other games.

Unity2D

For this I have used Unity's 2D options and I am quite happy with it, really!
So without any further ado, heres my New Years Game Jam Submission!

Out of my mind

Please note that this is just the mockup-art, and just the intro level. So theres not alot of playing involved.
But still, it was alot of fun to work on, and will be in the future, because I want to expand this game to be my 1GAM January submission.

@watacoso will be doing ALL the arts stuff which I am very thankful for and I can't wait to pep this intro up with his beautiful art!

What is the game about?

The game is about something everyone of us has in our minds, something unexplored, and once you start exploring this part of yourself, there is no going back. Once you have found a place unfound, you cannot forget about it.
In order to "get out of it" you have to explore it further and understand every aspect of this.
So exploring this game will eventually teach you to explore something yourself about yourself. Or maybe it's just fun to play point and click adventures!

I will keep you updated for this game! Happy new years!!

No Fun FISSIX - The Game

Games always are designed to make fun, right?
This time I wanted to break the system and design a game that is no fun!

Play via Web Player
Download Linux Build

The main and only menu!

Playing the game with no fun physics

What really happened with this game

This started off as a ludum dare nightmare, a weekend I have worked a days worth of hours, and was left with a few hours to come up with a game idea, learn unity and make it happen.
Obviously, as I have written in a previous blog post, this attempt has failed.

But I don't like throwing food away. Or unfinished projects. So I thought for the sake of OneGameAMonth I wrap this little thing called game up into whatever you see up there.

Because I am quite busy in the holidays, eating unhealthy food and having fun with friends, and actually working (really!), I did not have enough energy to make a game that is fun to play, so here you go!

Starring Bang Bong!

The music you hear in the game is made by Bang Bong, please check them out, they're a cool electro indie band from Germany, and thanks to them my game is actually some fun. Even if it is just playing it so you could listen to the music!

Jetpack Pants!

Well here you go!
Sorry I didn't provide any further info, because I crunched through it and I am going skiing until March and oh gawd no time left!
It works the same way as my previous game, you can check it out on "Games" at the top.
Just download it here!
Have fun! And let me know in case you actually won the game, because it gets pretty rough at the end... Yay!
My post-mortem post will com in March, bye bye!

Frogger 1.01

I have tweeted this as well but let me tell you this:
There is no greater motivation then having people play your game and then come up to you telling you:
[16:26] <+Cald> hollowspecter, das spiel ist addictive!
Its different when you make people testplay it or whatever. But knowing that I didn't ask him to play it, I think I didn't even give him the DL link. Anyways, you get the point.
It's awesome.
Especially because I don't think my game is fun.. alot.. it's balanced poorly, I don't even enjoy the original game, the game mechanics ok, but not special at all. And there is no ramping!

Maybe you still want to play it... after I bragged about it, ...
Because thanks to Cald (his twitter is @CaldK) I was able to fix some problems and I uploaded Version 1.01!

https://sourceforge.net/projects/frogger-hspec/

Maybe you want to submit a highscore? Yes? Go ahead! Just "Contact me" your highscore screenshot! And of course I'd be super happy if you give me some feedback on the game :) Thanks for reading!

5Frogger for Windows, Mac and Linux

Note: This is not the super official post of my Frogger yet! Just wanted to let you know that I have packaged the game for the common operating systems now!

https://sourceforge.net/projects/frogger-hspec/files/

Requirements:
JRE (I think 1.6.1 will work too, but just get the latest version)

Please note: Your computer probably will tell you "NO NO DONT OPEN THIS, NOT SAFE! NOPE NOPE" but I assure you, this game is absolutely harmless.
Check out the source code if you would like, and you could even compile that stuff yourself if you don't trust me.
C'mon. You can trust me!

By the way, I know, this game is totally... unbalanced and not as fun as I wanted it to be. It does not have a dynamic level system, like it gets harder over time (ramping). It's just hard ... all the time! If you guys are lucky I might add 3 different difficulties, but other than that I am very much happy that I have wrapped up that project. This project was mainly done for school, and I did not have all the freedome I wanted to have. But it's okay, it helped me learn the fundementals of game programming!

EDIT: I uploaded the files on sourceforge instead of my dropbox! I think it's more convenient that way. The mac package will probably not work, but I will try to fix that. I have no idea about the linux version, let me know if it doesn't work either please!
